
Acorn Alumni Scholarship Fundraiser
When: Friday, November 19th
Where: Acorn Gymnasium
Time: Starts at 5:00 PM


Acorn Food Production harvested mint, dill, cilantro, and various types of lettuce from their classroom hydroponic garden today. Their harvesting methods helped maintain the integrity of the plants so that they will continue to produce another round of produce. The class will use their fresh produce tomorrow to make mint lemonade and a green salad to complement their homemade mashed potatoes, macaroni & cheese, and pies.

Acorn High School NHS Inducts New Member
On Wednesday, November 17, 2021, Acorn High School junior Rachael Weddle was officially inducted into the Acorn NHS Chapter. Rachael was recognized as a member of the NHS Chapter at the October ceremony but was unable to attend.
The National Honor Society is a national organization recognizing high school students for their achievement in four areas: scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Students who are selected to become members of the National Honor Society must meet academic and GPA eligibility qualifications as well as the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service.

AHS Essay Winners
On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, Acorn High School students were recognized and honored for their winning essays in the VFW Post #4451 (Veterans of Foreign Wars) 2021 Voices of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen Essay Contests. The following students were awarded prizes and ranked 1st, 2nd or 3rd place for their essay:

AHS XC Competes At Next Level
On Saturday, November 13, 2021, Acorn High School Cross Country runners ran in two different All-Star Cross Country meet events. In the Arkansas versus Oklahoma All-Star Meet, Justice Neufeld helped Arkansas defeat Oklahoma. Neufeld finished the 5K course in 16:41.5 for 18th place overall out of 60 runners. He finished 1st for schools in Arkansas and Oklahoma schools in classifications of 1A-4A and each classifications’ state champions. Neufeld ended his high school career as the most decorated Acorn High School Cross Country runner and one of the top runners in either Arkansas or Oklahoma in 1A-6A.
In the Arkansas River Valley All-Star meet held at Mansfield, AHS junior Isaac Tedder was 4th overall in the boys race. Oden High School’s Miriam Garcia, exchange student from Spain was 3rd overall and Acorn High School sophomore Bella Tedder placed 10th. Both Isaac and Bella will return as some of the top runners for State next year.
Congratulations to the ORSD XC athletes and Coach Willsey on an outstanding cross country season!


Third and Fourth Grade students worked hard to design turkey launchers to save Tom Turkey from being eaten for Thanksgiving Dinner.

The Acorn High School Wrestling Team joined with area students and volunteers on Veteran’s Day to serve lunch to our Veterans and their families.The Annual Veterans’ Luncheon was held at the Ouachita Center on the UA Rich Mountain campus.
We say THANK YOU to all who dedicate their lives to serve this country. Happy Veterans Day to our heroes.

Acorn Students Present Cards & Thanks To Veterans
Acorn 5th & 6th grade students created handmade cards and messages of appreciation for our Veterans and presented the cards on Veterans Day. Students learned about respect and honor and wanted to express their gratitude for those who served and continue to serve.

Oden Campus Announcement 📣
Tomorrow is our Thanksgiving lunch at school. Your child was given a time for your family to come eat with them. Please enter through the elementary double doors and pick up your ticket for lunch. We are excited to see everyone tomorrow! 🍁🦃

Kenzie Daniels and her Adviser, Mindy Lyle attended National FCCLA Capitol Leadership and Fall Conference in Washington DC on November 2-7. As a member of the Arkansas State Executive Council, Kenzie took part in a ceremony in which she laid a wreath from the Arkansas delegation at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Executive Council also met with Senator Tom Cotton, Senator John Boozeman, and State Representatives Bruce Westerman, French Hill, and Rick Crawford. The students took part in a Capitol Hill Advocacy event and then spoke to these men about the importance of Career & Technical Education, Career & Technical Student Organization such as FCCLA, and how vital continued funding for these programs is. The group also toured Mount Vernon, many National Monuments, the National Zoo, and several Smithsonian Museums, as well as attending multiple leadership meetings and trainings with FCCLA. Kenzie is a 10th grader at Acorn High School. She is the Acorn FCCLA President, Arkansas FCCLA State President, and is running for FCCLA National office this Spring.

Attention parents of Acorn Elementary 5th and 6th grade students:
The 5th/6th Grade students will have their Christmas Musical on Monday, Dec. 13th at 7:00 pm in the Mary Davis Gym. They will perform with the Acorn High School Choir. What a great experience AES students had yesterday! The Air Evac Lifeteam flew their helicopter to our campus and spoke to our students. Very educational and fun! Thank you Air Evac Team.
