Acorn Schools will be hosting a couple of upcoming events this fall to support food drives. Saturday, October 7th at 7 PM in the Acorn Cafeteria, AHS Band and Choir will be hosting a Fall “Fun”D Concert and collecting “ready-made” meals, snacks and drinks for the Backpack Program. Acorn High School Project Prevent Student Organization is hosting a Food Drive on November 1st for the Acorn vs Cossatot River Basketball Game at the Acorn Gym.
We appreciate your support for this worthy cause and for your valuable partnership in meeting food insecurity needs.

Acorn FCCLA attended the FCCLA District VI Planning and Election meeting at Lake Hamilton High School today. The 2023-2024 FCCLA District VI Officer Team was elected. Acorn Junior, Kora Carter was elected District VI First Vice President. Acorn Sophomore, Damon Cruz was elected Vice President of Parliamentary Law.

ORSD Seniors Attend UARM Senior Day
Acorn and Oden High School Classes of 2023 attended Senior Day on Wednesday, 9/21/2022 hosted by the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain and held in the Ouachita Center on the UARM main campus in Mena. Also in attendance were seniors from all service area county school districts from Polk, Scott, Montgomery counties in Arkansas and Smithville High School in Oklahoma.
UARM presentations included a welcome by Chancellor Dr. Phillip Wilson and the following departments: TRiO Educational Opportunity Services Program, Admissions, Financial Aid & Scholarships, Athletics, and Academic Programs. Seniors and school staff participated in interactive trivia games and were provided lunch by UA Rich Mountain.
ORSD would like to say thank you to UA Rich Mountain staff and faculty for the invitation and opportunity to learn about UA Rich Mountain programs, services and admissions process to be better prepared for life after high school.

AHS Writers Earn Top Awards for Peace Essays
Each year, Arkansas Peace Week hosts a variety of events hosted by numerous organizations throughout the great state of Arkansas. The events feature education, service and outreach activities promoting peacemaking, non-violence, social justice, ecological stewardship and community building. One of the events is the Peace Week Youth Essay Contest for Arkansas students in grades 7th - 12th. Cash prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category and award winners were invited to read their essays at the Arkansas State Capitol on Saturday, September 24th.
1st Place - Meera Henry, Acorn High School Junior
Essay: “How to Accomplish Peace”
3rd Place - Kailee Branson, Acorn High School Sophomore
Essay: “Peace Within Empathy”
Acorn High School English Instructor for grades 10-12th, Kelly Slaten provided assistance and guidance with the registration process for student submissions for the essay contest.
