Be Pro Be Proud brings Mobile Workshop to Ouachita River School District – Acorn & Oden campuses
The Be Pro Be Proud Mobile Workshop will visit Acorn High School on Wednesday, April 6th and Oden High School on Thursday, April 7th beginning at 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. The Arkansas State Chamber and its public and private partners launched Be Pro Be Proud in 2016 to address an expanding skills gap in professional trades across the state. Arkansas’s future will depend on changing the perception of these career options and efforts highlighting the many opportunities available within these sectors.
“Since launching Be Pro Be Proud in 2016, Arkansas has been leading the nation in supporting skilled trade and professions allowing us to better compete in the global marketplace,” said the Hon. Asa Hutchinson, Governor of Arkansas. “I encourage everyone to be a part of the Be Pro Be Proud movement. It shows that we are serious about educating parents and young people about these career paths that are essential to our state’s economic growth.”
The 12 in-demand professions that continue to be represented include truck driver; diesel tech; locomotive engineer; welder; machinist; computer numerical control (CNC) operator; tool and die maker; computer programmer; computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) drafter; heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) tech; plumber; electrician and carpenter.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our stakeholders. Ouachita River School District high schools are proud to be a collaborative partner in this movement to host the Be Pro Be Proud Mobile Workshops on each of our high school campuses –Acorn in Polk County and Oden in Montgomery County. Our students gain valuable information and experience relevant to careers and professions represented in the simulations. The information and experiences will help them to be better equipped in making decisions that impact their future career plans”, stated Jerry Strasner, ORSD Superintendent.

ACORN TIGERS CLASS A-AA Indoor State Track Champions
On February 26, 2022, the Acorn Tigers traveled to Fayetteville to compete in their first indoor state track meet at the University of Arkansas Randal Tyson Track Center. The Acorn Tigers not only competed but were named Class A-AA Champions coached by Coach Keith Willsey. This win came with challenges and obstacles including some athletes unable to compete due to changes in the 2-A Regional Basketball playoff schedule.
The Tigers were able to move up two freshmen which allowed a solid team to be assembled for all events. The team was led by AHS Senior Justice Neufeld who won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs, and placed 3rd in the 400 meter run. For the Tigers to win the championship title, they excelled and gained additional points in field events. Jonah Rogan and Zachary Cline placed 4th and 6th in the shot put event. Reed McGee hit a big mark in the triple jump event for 3rd place and Caden Tarkinton placed 4th. For the long jump event, Reed McGee placed 6th and Isaac Tedder placed 8th.
In the track events, the Tigers set the tone of the meet by winning the 4 x 800 with Frederick Metcalf, Reed McGee, Isaac Tedder and Caden Tarkinton. AHS Freshman Caden Tarkinton placed 3rd in the 800 run and 4th in the 1600 run. Isaac Tedder placed 3rd in the 3200 run and Riley Weddle placed 4th in the 60 run and in the 200 run with Frederick Metcalfe placing 6th. Reed McGee placed 5th in the 400 run, Jonah Rogan placed 5th in the 60 and 3rd in 60 hurdles, and Isaac Tedder placed 5th. The AHS Tigers’ 4 x 400 Relay Team of Reed McGee, Jonah Rogan, Riley Weddle and Caden Tarkinton finished the meet with a victory. AHS Lady Tiger Bella Tedder placed 6th in 1600 and 3rd place in 3200 meter runs.
This event makes Acorn High School’s 16th Track and Field/Cross Country Championship in the history of AHS Track & Field for boys and girls. The Tigers will start the outdoor season looking to defend their 2021 Class AA State Track Championships.
Congratulations to our AHS Tigers and Lady Tigers! #orsdlifeprep

Just a reminder! Juniors on the Acorn and Oden campuses will be taking the State-Administered ACT Test on Tuesday, March 29th. The test will be administered starting at 8:00 a.m. through noon.

Oden and Acorn Community Members,
Thank you very much for attending our parent-teacher conferences and CAPs meetings on March 17th. Our staff worked hard to make sure it was a worthwhile event. The end of the Third Nine Weeks marks the beginning of the State-Wide Testing season. Each school building will have its own set of testing dates. These tests are essential to our community as the results will show us how we can help our students. The teachers and students have worked diligently to show growth in Math, Literacy, and Science all school year. Help us be successful with this year’s testing by making sure your students are rested, are confident, and PRESENT each day of testing.
Go Tigers, go Wolves! Have a great Spring Break!

Attention Acorn Tigers:
Acorn Baseball and Acorn Softball games for today have been cancelled. They have been rescheduled for April 12th.

On March 15th, the Acorn EAST class travelled to Hot Springs to attend the three-day 2022 EAST conference at the Hot Springs Convention Center. There, the team presented their booth to a panel of judges and many other schools across Arkansas! #EASTCon22
