Acorn Students Awarded Miss Polk County Winners
On Saturday, October 14th, the 2023 Miss Polk County Pageant was held and from a total of 59 contestants from 7 age divisions, ages 0-15 competed in gown only and the Miss division, ages 16-21, competed in private interview (50%), casual wear (20%), and evening gown (30%).
Paisley Laughlin, 5th grade student from Acorn Elementary School was awarded Best Dressed in the 10-12 years of age division/category.
Lily Arender, 5th grade student at Acorn Elementary School was awarded 2nd Runner Up in the Petite Miss Polk County category.
In the Petite Miss Polk County competition (10-12 years of age), Jozie Daniels, 6th grade student from Acorn Elementary School, was crowned Queen.
In the Miss Polk County competition (16-21 years of age), Kenzie Daniels, Senior from Acorn High School, was crowned Queen. In addition to being crowned Miss Polk County Queen, Kenzie also received the following awards and scholarships:
- Academic Leadership Award - $200 scholarship provided by AmeriChemm, LLC
- Volunteer Service Award - $200 Scholarship provided by Rotary Club of Polk County/Mena
- Overall Interview Award - $150 scholarship provided by Mena Tire Co.
- Overall Evening Gown Award - $150 scholarship provided by The Fair Lady Boutique
- Overall Casual Wear Award - $150 scholarship provided by Select Realty
- Miss Polk County $500 Scholarship - provided by Polk County Fair & Rodeo Association
- Miss Polk County $500 Union Bank Scholarship - provided by Union Bank for any technical school or college of choice
Kenzie and Jozie Daniels are siblings and cherish this honor and memorable occasion as sisters.

Acorn Elementary would like to invite all of our K-2 parents to our annual Family Literacy Night. Our K-2 Family Literacy Night is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and celebrate the joy of reading. This year's theme, "Under the Stars," promises to be a magical and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Join us for a fun evening where you will learn ways to make storytime with your little ones more exciting, paint a glow-in-the-dark moon rock, and enjoy a snack while you're here.
The first 100 students will receive a free book and a finger flashlight.

Mabry Named to AAC for the Education of Children with Disabilities
On October 17th, Leo Mabry, Acorn High School Special Education Teacher was named to serve as a member of the Arkansas Advisory Council for the Education of Children with Disabilities.
The role of the council is to advise the Department of Education of unmet needs within the state in the education of children with disabilities; comment publicly on any rules or regulations proposed by the state regarding the education of children with disabilities; advise the department in developing evaluations and reporting on data to the Secretary of Education under 20 U.S.C. § 1418; advise the department in developing corrective action plans to address findings identified in federal monitoring reports under Title 20, Chapter 33, Subchapter II of the United States Code; and advise the department in developing and implementing policies relating to the coordination of services for children with disabilities.

University of Arkansas Presentation to AHS JRS & SRS
On October 17th, University of Arkansas Admissions Counselor Allie Taylor met with Acorn High School juniors and seniors interested in college majors offered at the Fayetteville campus. Allie provided an overview of academic programs, student life organizations, study abroad opportunities, scholarships and financial aid

Acorn Schools’ Host 2023 Harvest Festival
On the evening of Friday, October 13th, Acorn Public Schools hosted the annual Harvest Festival event. The event is a tradition for Acorn Public Schools and held each fall on the Acorn campus to provide an engaging, fun, and celebratory experience for the whole family and community. Each grade level, from preschool to grade 12, hosts games or activities to raise money for grade level special projects as well as to enhance and enrich classroom experiences for students.
The crowning event at Harvest Festival is Acorn Schools’ 2023-2024 Royalty Court presented and first, second and third place winners recognized for Acorn Elementary and Acorn High School for their fundraising efforts.
