Everyone here at AES is super proud of our First Grade Battle of the Books teams. They competed at the Dequeen Mena Education Co-Op yesterday and did an excellent job representing our school! They even brought home a 2nd Place trophy!
Battle of the Books is a yearly quiz-style competition between schools located in our Educational Co-op area. Students had to read a list of books and memorize the authors and details of those books. They also spent a lot of time practicing questions at school and at home that highlighted details from each book.
Great Way to celebrate reading during our Read Across America Week.

Oden High School hosted local author Avery Powell on Monday to kick off "Read Across America Week". Avery talked about the writing process and her book Angel Eyes. Avery is a 2022 Mena graduate. She started writing her first book while she was in high school. Thank you for your time and we can't wait for your next book! 🧡🖤

The Oden 2nd second grade set a class reading goal for Read Across America Week and today they met it!!! We are proud of you 2nd grade! Keep reading!

Acorn Elementary School loves and appreciates our maintenance workers. Thank you, Mrs. Jackye, Mr. Sam, and Mr. Jay, for keeping our school looking great!

Acorn Elementary would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the members of the First United Methodist Church for the generous donation of books and book bags to our 3rd-grade students during the recent "Book Buffet" event. Your dedication to supporting education and fostering a love of reading within our school is greatly appreciated.
The "Book Buffet" initiative was an amazing way to kick off our Read Across America Week celebration.
Mr. Watkin's Class had the best overall attendance and earned the Traveling Attendance Trophy for the week of Feb. 26th-March 1st!
