Ouachita River School District - Acorn Elementary School and Oden Schools have been recognized by the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas as schools where students are “Beating the Odds” through demonstrating high growth on the ATLAS tests. The awards for growth reflect regional and statewide recognition.
The OEP awards are based on the 2025 content growth score calculated by the Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education of Education and reflect how much students at each school improved from 2024 compared to how much other students with similar prior achievement improved. Schools recognized were based on Overall growth, as well as for growth in Math and English Language Arts as separate categories. According to the UA Office of Education Policy, the performance awards reflect recognition for schools with high student academic growth, with growth being the best indicator of the positive impact schools have on students.

The Office for Education Policy (OEP) is one of several research centers within the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas. OEP staff includes faculty members, research associates and graduate students who specialize in education research and policy. OEP provides current national, state, and regional education research to support state lawmakers and educators in thoughtful decision-making in PK-12 education in the State of Arkansas.

On the evening of Friday, October 10th, Acorn Public Schools hosted the annual Harvest Festival event. The event is a tradition for Acorn Public Schools and held each fall on the Acorn campus to provide an engaging, fun, and celebratory experience for the whole family and community. Each grade level, from preschool to grade 12, hosts games or activities to raise money for grade level special projects as well as to enhance and enrich classroom experiences for students.
The crowning event at Harvest Festival is Acorn Schools’ 2025-2026 Royalty Court presented and first, second and third place winners recognized for Acorn Elementary and Acorn High School for their fundraising efforts.

Acorn High School Celebration and Recognition for ATLAS Achievements
On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Acorn High School held a recognition ceremony for students in grades 7th - 11th who achieved one or more of the following on the ATLAS for the 2024-2025 school year:
Top boy (KING) and top girl (QUEEN) for each ATLAS Test (ELA, Science & Math)
Students who scored a top score of 4 on the ATLAS
Students who scored a top score of 3 on the ATLAS
Students who demonstrated growth on the ATLAS
The ATLAS test refers to the Arkansas Teaching and Learning and Assessment System, a comprehensive assessment program for public school students in Arkansas, grades K-12. It includes various assessments that included screeners and end of the year summative assessments in English Language Arts (ELA), math, and science for grades 3-10 and high school. The system was created to align with state academic standards and provide teachers, students, and parents with detailed information about student learning and areas for support.
