ORSD: CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) is launching a national communication initiative, “Protect Young People from E-Cigarettes,” to educate staff working in school settings about the risks of youth e-cigarette use. Youth e-cigarette use remains a public health concern. In 2020, nearly 1 in 5 high school students and 1 in 20 middle school students reported current use of e-cigarettes. E-cigarette use among youth is unsafe. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is highly addictive and can harm adolescent brain development. E-cigarettes come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors, some of which are easy to hide. Visit cdc.gov/e-cigarettes for additional information and resources about youth e-cigarette use.

ORSD Family,
Tonight, the ORSD School Board voted masks to be optional to students, staff, and teachers while attending school starting tomorrow April 6th. This decision is in light of the recent announcement by the Governor to lift the mask mandate across Arkansas. ORSD will monitor all safety protocols and continue to receive guidance from the Arkansas Department of Health. We are grateful that the positive Covid-19 cases have drastically declined in our communities. If you have questions on the safety measures of your respective school, please feel free to call us on the Acorn Campus @ 479-394-2348 Ext. 7 or 870-326-4311 on the Oden Campus.
Respectfully,
Jerrall A. Strasner Superintendent of Schools

AHS Nominates 2021 Delegates for Arkansas Girls and Boys State
Each year, Arkansas youth have an opportunity to be nominated and selected to participate as Arkansas Boys State and Girls State delegates in a weeklong, transformative program with their peers from around the State. The goal and purpose of the educational programs are to teach high school students through hands-on experience about civic responsibility, rights, privileges and duties. The programs are a collaborative partnership with high schools and the American Legion for Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary for Girls State. Acorn High School nominees for 2021 Arkansas Boys State is Justice Neufeld and for Arkansas Girls State is Raeghan Weddle. Congratulations, Justice and Raeghan!
